Using Voicemail

On your first day.

Listen and read

Tap a message to play it. Tap its down chevron to expand the transcript, when one is available. Transcripts depend on the sender enabling speech recognition.

The play button in the bottom bar starts the next unread message. While a message is playing, it becomes a pause button. Active playback continues when your screen locks.

A blue dot marks an unread message. Swipe right on a received message to find the read or unread control.

Record and reply

If a message is playing, pause it first. Swipe left on the received message to reveal Reply, then tap the blue reply arrow.

To start a new message, tap the record button and choose a contact. Recording starts when you choose them. In a conversation, the record button starts a reply there.

Tap the record button again to pause or resume, then tap the blue send arrow when you're ready. The X cancels. Restart discards your recording and starts over.

Reply with your voice

Swipe left, tap Reply, record, then send. Silent demo with fictional messages. Recording and delivery are simulated.
Sending and retrying

Animated dots mean a message is still sending. They don't mean the other person has received it yet. Keep the app connected to the internet while it sends.

If sending fails, tap the red exclamation mark on the message to retry. Queued messages also retry when the app reconnects. You don't need to record the same message again.

Retry a message

Sending dots, a failed send, then a retry. Silent demo with fictional messages and simulated delivery.
Find friends and invite someone

Open Contacts and tap Contact. Choose someone, then tap Add. For someone new to Voicemail, send the invitation in the Messages composer that opens. An orange dot means they haven't joined yet.

People already on Voicemail appear after they accept your request.

A download link alone doesn't put someone on the guest list. Invite their phone number from the app before they sign up.

Add a friend

Choose a contact and add them. Silent demo with fictional contacts. The Messages composer step is not shown.
Groups

Open Contacts and choose Group. Pick up to 11 friends to join you, give the group a name if you want, then tap Add Group. Send a message to the group or reply to an existing group message. Group replies go to everyone.

Make a group

Choose Nina and Leo, then tap Add Group. Silent demo with fictional contacts. Group creation is simulated.
Translation

In Contacts, swipe left on a person and tap the translation control. Choose the language for messages you send to them.

They hear the translated audio by default and can tap the globe on a message to hear the original. Translation can take a little longer to prepare.

Translation uses an external service. It is separate from on-device speech recognition. See the privacy policy for details.

Choose a language
